The jurisdiction of the Arkansas Court of Appeals is determined by the Arkansas Supreme Court.

The fourteen Courts of Appeals have intermediate appellate jurisdiction in both civil and criminal cases appealed from district or county courts.
Appeals in the Courts of Appeals are usually heard by a panel of three justices, unless in a particular case an en banc hearing is ordered, in which instance all the justices of that Court hear and consider the case.

In addition to their appellate jurisdiction, the courts of appeals have original jurisdiction, as does the Supreme Court, to hear applications for writs of habeas corpus, mandamus, procedendo, prohibition and quo warranto.
The courts of appeals are established by Article IV, Section 1 of the Ohio Constitution, and their jurisdiction is outlined in Article IV, Section 3.

The court also has jurisdiction to review decisions of administrative agencies, boards, and commissions of the District government, as well as to answer questions of law certified by the Supreme Court of the United States, a Court of Appeals of the United States, or the highest appellate court of any state.
Jurisdiction As the court of last resort for the District of Columbia, the Court of Appeals is authorized to review all final orders, judgments and specified interlocutory orders of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
A hearing or rehearing before the court sitting en banc may be ordered by a majority of the judges in regular active service, generally only when consideration by the full court is necessary to maintain uniformity of its decisions, or when the case involves a question of exceptional importance.

 The Court of Appeals of Virginia
The Court of Appeals has original jurisdiction to issue writs of mandamus, prohibition and habeas corpus in any case over which the Court would have appellate jurisdiction.
All criminal cases that are within the Court's jurisdiction and all traffic infraction cases are presented to the Court by petition for appeal.
Appeals of right are cases that an appellate court is required to hear.

The Rules of Practice of the Court of Appeals apply to civil and noncapital criminal appeals, motions, criminal leave applications and certified questions from the Supreme Court of the United States, United States Courts of Appeal and state courts of last resort.
Oral arguments at the Court of Appeals are held during nine calendar months, and the Court usually sits in late August to hear and decide cases related to primary elections.
The revised Rules of Practice of the Court of Appeals (22 NYCRR part 500) are effective September 1, 2005.

The Court of Appeals, created by the General Assembly in 1925, hears appeals in civil or noncriminal cases from trial courts and certain state boards and commissions.
No witnesses, juries or testimony are present before the Court of Appeals.
As with judges on the Supreme Court and the Court of Criminal Appeals, the 12 members of the Court of Appeals must, by state law, be evaluated every eight years.
