Crown copyright in New Zealand is defined by Sections 2(1), 26 and 27 of the Copyright Act 1994.
Crown copyright is a form of copyright claim used by the governments of the United Kingdom and a number of other Commonwealth realms.
Section 12 of the Copyright Act is the provision dealing with Crown copyright.

Crown copyright, or government copyright, refers generally to copyright in materials produced by the government.
The exercise of Crown copyright is sometimes combined with permissive licensing to reproduce materials, as is the situation with federal law.
The chapter recommends that Crown copyright in Canada should not apply to public legal information because those works are produced with the obligation to make them available for the purposes of public access and notice of the law.

 Crown Copyright in the United Kingdom
Copyright subsists in every work which is eligible for copyright and which is made or broadcast by or under the direction or control of the Government or such public bodies as may be prescribed (duration 25 years, the general period under this Act): Copyright Act 1982, s.8).
Crown copyright in Acts subsists from Royal Assent for 50 years from the end of the year in which Royal Assent was given (s.164(2)).
It should be noted that, in addition to ownership of copyright arising under sections 163 and 164, Her Majesty may become entitled to copyright (a) by transmission, i.e., by assignment, testamentary disposition or operation of law, or (b) by virtue of the ordinary rules of copyright subsistence.

NB the use of the phrase Crown Copyright Reserved is meaningless to all but Copyright specialists and not at all helpful.
It would be manifestly oppressive and unjust to use copyright legislation in such cases.
