Crown Office - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nowadays The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service is a Department of the Scottish Executive, led by the Lord Advocate and the Solicitor General for Scotland who are the legal advisers to the Executive and may participate in the proceedings of the Scottish Parliament.
The office dates back to Medieval times, with the earliest Lord Advocate being John Ross of Montgrenan who the King appointed as his commissioner at a hearing in Stirling in 1476, then as procurator for another case in Edinburgh in the following year.
Once someone has been charged with an offence and remanded in custody, the Crown must bring the case to trial within 110 days or the accused will be admitted to bail.

A History of the United States Patent Office
Arguing for the necessity for expanded patent protection, Eli Whitney wrote to Congress in 1812 that he "was soon reduced to the disagreeable necessity of resorting to the courts of Justice for the protection of his [intellectual] property." Whitney found it difficult to enforce his cotton gin patent against numerous acts of infringement.
The Patent Act of 1790 is the result of a compromise between the Federalists and Anti-Federalists that complies with the Intellectual Property Clause of the Constitution.
Patent applications took several months to be examined, and less than half (fifty-seven total patents) were eventually issued between the 1790 Act and the Act of 1793.
