International Court of Justice The International Court of Justice is the principal judicial organ of the UN.
Only states may be parties in cases before the International Court of Justice.
Purposes: To maintain international peace and security; to achieve international cooperation in solving economic, social, cultural, and humanitarian problems and in promoting respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms; to be a center for harmonizing the actions of nations in attaining these common ends.

 USNEI-Organization of U.S. Education, The International Dimension
Bureau of International Organization Affairs of the U.S. Department of State oversees all activities involving U.S. membership in and relations with international organizations, including regional organizations.
The vast majority of international activities undertaken by U.S. students, parents, educators, institutions, and private associations do not involve intergovernmental affairs and are not regulated by the government.
Since foreign affairs occasionally involves matters related to education, international education policy and agreements are federal responsibilities if they involve relations with foreign governments and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

William Wood, acting assistant secretary for the Bureau of International Organization Affairs, told a House International Relations subcommittee July 31 that the United States is concerned, however, about two topics currently under discussion in Geneva in PrepCom (preparatory) talks to the WCAR.
There have been four international meetings by region to prepare for the WCAR; we attended most of them and participated actively at the regional meeting for the Americas in Santiago, Chile.
These, he said, are proposals for calling Zionism "racism," and for reparations or compensation for trans-Atlantic slave trading.

Candidates for this position will advise the Deputy Assistant Secretary, other bureaus, and Department principals on issues related to United Nations' initiatives on trade, investment, corporate responsibility, international taxation and economic freedom, ensuring coordination between USTR, Commerce, the Economic Bureau (EB), U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Treasury, and White House activities.

The Bush administration has yet to appoint an assistant secretary of state for the Bureau of International Organization Affairs, which oversees U.N. policy.
Mel Levitsky, a former U.S. ambassador who has known Patterson for years, said she has an interest in becoming the assistant secretary of state for the Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, a post that frequently goes to political appointees.
Patterson has also demonstrated a willingness to compromise, supporting a politically controversial decision to allow the Security Council to grant the International Criminal Court, which the United States opposes, a mandate to investigate war crimes by Sudanese officials in Darfur.
