Intestate proceedings are settlements of estates by courts in which a person has died without having made a will.
Intestate proceedings files generally contain a large number of documents which will provide a great amount of information about the deceased, his/her family and neighbors, and his/her property.
If the court house is large enough to have a separate clerk of the orphans court, that official will handle the intestate proceeding after the letters of administration are granted by the register of wills.

 Intestate
Section 46(1)(vi) of the administration of estates act 1925 gives the crown a discretion to make provisions for dependents of the Intestate whether they are related to the deceased or not.
The Law prescribes what a surviving spouse can automatically receive, this is known as the Statutory legacy, and the amount is dependent on whether or not the deceased was also survived by issue and certain other relatives, again in order of strict priority.
Similarly the Crown may provide for “other persons for whom the Intestate might reasonable have been expected to make provision”.

Besides such certificate, she had sworn an affidavit attested by a notary public stating she was a 'class 1' heir under the Hindu Succession Act of her husband M P, indicating that he had died intestate.
The documents indicate that M P Birla died intestate -- or without making a will -- and this gave Priyamvada the right to dispose of her assets according to her own disposition under personal law.
In keeping with normal practice, the late Priyamvada secured a certificate from a top-notch solicitor stating she was the sole heir and survivor of her husband M P and there was no other heir to his properties.

Will Properly Revoked; Testator Died Intestate
The law disfavors intestacy and requires that, when reasonably possible, wills be construed to avoid that result.
The wills from 1990 and 1994 were "ineffective because they lack the signatures of attesting witnesses." When she drew up the 1990 will, she wrote on the back of her 1985 will "VOID--NEW WILL DRAWN UP 6-28-90." The issue is if the 1985 will was revoked by Binco, in which case she died intestate.

Fool.com: Don't Die "Intestate" [Motley Fool Take] August 18, 2004
"Intestate" is a state that you don't want to die in.
Dying intestate often means that not only does your estate end up in probate but also it may spend years there, as various heirs litigate.
These formulas are designed to do what's right for the average person, but they're rarely right for every person.

Dying Intestate - dying without a will

Purcell's death was not sudden enough to leave him intestate - the beginning of his will reads:
The cause of Purcell's death is unclear: one theory is that he caught a chill after returning late from the theatre one night and finding that his wife had locked him out; another is that he succumbed to chocolate poisoning; perhaps the most likely is that he died of tuberculosis.
I, Henry Purcell, of the City of Westminster, gentleman, being dangerously ill as to the constitution of my body, but in good and perfect mind and memory (thanks be to God) do by these presents publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament.
