Attorney Michael Halfenger of Foley and Lardner’s Milwaukee office filed a friend of the court brief on behalf of the American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin and argued before the Court on October 7, 2005, urging the Court to ensure that federal rights be fully protected in state courts.
Last week, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled unanimously that state trial courts may not require plaintiffs alleging a federal civil rights claim to meet a higher burden of proof than the burden used by federal courts in deciding such claims.

The US cares about civil liberties (at least nominally) within its own shores, but those from other countries are not afforded the same rights (wasn't someone shipped to an american court rather than camp X-Ray due to their being a US citizen, the non americans were illegally imprisoned with the rest of them).
In the states, freedom and liberty are buzzwords.
Americans with an interest in the civil liberties of all people, not just those americans with the power and money to defend their own (and to take those of others), many of whom I'm sure read slashdot should fight terrorism in their own way.
