The 27th transport from Vienna (June 14, 1942) was the only one which went directly to Sobibor.
In the extermination camp at Sobibor in the Lublin district of the "Generalgouvernment", about 250,000 people, all of Jewish origin, were murdered in the course of the "Aktion Reinhard" between March 1942 and the closing of the camp in 1943.

Sobibor - The Forgotten Revolt, by Thomas Toivi Blatt
Most compelling is Thomas Blatt's interview with Karl Frenzel, a Nazi officer at Sobibor, which encapsulates Hanna Arendt's famous phrase 'the banality of evil'."
As a survivor of the revolt at the Sobibor death camp, hi brought all the qualities and more to his compelling book, Sobibor - The Forgotten Revolt.
This is a remarkable feat in itself because Blatt was one of the prisoners who had a role in the revolt and who escaped from Sobibor.

Sobibor also witnessed the largest mass breakout of any of the death camps.
The camp witnessed the only 'mass' breakout of prisoners at a death camp.

French culture cinema Claude Lanzmann: Sobibor
"Sobibor, October 14, 1943, 4 P.M. contains no archival footage of the Holocaust.
Nor does it attempt to recreate the uprising at that specific Polish extermination camp on that specific date and time by any means other than that of broad-shouldered, steadfast Yehuda Lerner's eyewitness account.
Sobibor is a simple film with little camerawork, no music, and no cinematic manipulation, but that's what helps make it powerful, heartbreaking, and joyous all at the same time.

 Sobibor Concentration Camp
Sobibor, in the Lublin district of Poland, opened in May 1942.
The last to be established were the death camps, of which Sobibor is an example.
The second were the transit camps, which served as concentration points in the Nazi-occupied countries, from which trains transported the inmates to either labor or death camps further east.

 Sobibor
The date of this change was May of the same year when it was built, 1942.
It was first made in March of 1942.
From other ghettos, many other Jews were deported to Sobibor from the other death camp, Belzec.

Sobibor, one of six Nazi extermination centers in Poland
The processing of the content of a convoy made up of 20 cattle cars took about 2-3 hours.
From May 1942 to July 1942, approximately 100,000 Jews were murdered at Sobibor.
Sobibor, now under the command of Reichleitner, continued operations again in October 1942 and worked through to the summer of 1943.

The report also stated that 300 prisoners had fled in the direction of the Bug River, and there was the danger that they might link up with the partisans.
The SS people occupied the command and administrative positions in the camp and were responsible for the various installations, which were operated by the Ukrainians or by the Jewish prisoners.
The Sobibor revolt and the fear of similar revolts apparently influenced Himmler in his decision to order Friedrich Kru"ger, the supreme commander of the SS and police in the General-Government, to hasten the elimination of all the Jews still remaining in camps in the Lublin district.

Most of these lost their lives in the hunt that followed, organized by the SS and police units.
Because Sobibor was no longer used as extermination camp, most of the barracks were not destroyed by the SS, but rather in the post-war era.
In fact at this time Sobibor held 700 Jews but not all of them fled (source: S. Tyas), so that a smaller number (approximately 300) of escapees must be estimated.

Escape From Sobibor: A Personal Review Essay
Rashke’s book provided the basis for a film of the same title which was first televised in 1987 and which is still available on videocassette.
Finally, the film greatly oversimplifies the complexities of communication among the Jewish prisoners in Sobibor and omits the key role of Solomon Leitman, who acted as both interpreter and go-between for Feldhendler and Pechersky, who had no common language to enable them to converse directly.
I have concluded that I do not and that I should incorporate more information from his book as a partial corrective.

Sobibor was unique as both the only camp to experience an organized insurrection, and the only death camp at which SS guards were killed by their Jewish prisoners.
Original title in France: Sobibor, 14 Octobre 1943, 16 Heures (which translates to English as Sobibor, Oct. 14, 1943, 4PM).
Over 260,000 Jews were killed there by the Nazi's over its first year of operation, but at 4:00 PM, on October 14th, 1943, it became the site of an amazing act of defiance, as 365 prisoners staged a revolt against the guard, leading to the escape and survival of 47 people.

NYPOST.COM Movie Reviews: 'SOBIBOR': A LONE STAND AGAINST DEATH By JONATHAN FOREMAN
C LAUDE Lanzmann intended to tell the story of the Sobibor uprising, the only successful death camp insurrection during the entire Holocaust, in his celebrated "Shoah." But he felt that his interview with Yehuda Lerner - who took part in that uprising at the age of 16 - deserved a film of its own.
You might also argue that Lanzmann's refusal to provide context for Lerner's story makes it less accessible to the average viewer: After all, it's the uniqueness of the Sobibor rebellion that makes it, and Lerner's role in it, so significant.

In the Holocaust "Death-camps" large numbers of people were killed using gas, usually immediately after they disembarked from trains under the pretense of being given a shower to prevent disease.
The worst conditions were imposed in Nazi concentration camps.
Most camps were specialized into variously forced labour camps, starvation camps ( Buchenwald) or later extermination camps ( Treblinka, Sobibor); though Auschwitz, the largest and most infamous, had a separate camp devoted to each purpose.
