Supreme Court of the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The court is sometimes referred to by the acronyms SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the United States) and USSC (United States Supreme Court).
Thus, for example, the Court between 1969 and 1986 is referred to as the "Burger Court" (after former Chief Justice Warren E. Burger) and the Court between 1986 and 2005 is referred to as the "Rehnquist Court" (after the late Chief Justice William Rehnquist).
The ruling of the Court is embodied in the "opinion of the Court," which represents the views of a majority of the Justices.

 ALA Court Cases
Arranged by topic, they cover case law issued by a variety of courts: the Supreme Court of the United States, the Court of Appeals of different Federal circuits, the District Court of several Federal districts, as well as the highest court of several states and particular appellate courts of action.
They made this allegation in a federal court lawsuit seeking to have the clause declared unconstitutional; and they were successful at the district court and court of appeals level.
The Supreme Court struck down the regulation on the grounds that the First Amendment barred any rule compelling an individual to salute the flag or participate in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Supreme Court's changing stance on tribal sovereignty
Georgia (30 U.S. (5 Pet.) 1 (1831)), the Court addressed the question of whether the Cherokee Nation was a "foreign state" and, therefore, could sue the State of Georgia in federal court under diversity jurisdiction.
Lee (358 U.S. 217 (1959)), the Court ruled that Arizona state courts did not have jurisdiction in a civil case that involved a non-Indian who sued two reservation Indians for an alleged breach of contract that happened on the reservation.
The Court concluded that allowing state jurisdiction in such a case would undermine the authority of tribal courts to decide matters that arise on the reservation--a clear infringement of the right of Indian self-government.

Ergo, if the Supreme Court rules in favor of the wineries it would probably just affect those states that allow in-state wineries to ship and they would be forced to either allow out of state wineries to ship or stop allowing in-state shipping.
The high court was reviewing Michigan and New York state laws that limited the ability of wineries to take advantage of Internet and telephone sales to sell their products directly to consumers who couldn't otherwise obtain the wine through their home state's alcohol distribution system.
Sent: 12/9/2004 5:44 PM I *think* the case that is before the Supreme Court is about States that allow in-state wineries to ship direct to customers but disallowing out of state wineries to direct ship.
