Uniform civil code is a term originating from the concept of a civil law code.
Furthermore article 44 expressly mandates the government to introduce a uniform civil code, which would include such items as marriage, inheritance and divorce, which were the main protections granted to Muslims in their personal law.
Those in favour of a secular Uniform Civil Code are the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
